The search for a body in Whakatane River will resume tomorrow morning.

A police media spokeswoman said the search was suspended for the night at 8.30pm and was due to resume around 7am tomorrow.

As well as shoreline searches, the Police Dive Squad would also be involved, she said.

Police and other emergency services were called to Pekatahi Bridge, on State Highway 2, about midday today.

The bridge runs between Awakeri and Taneatua.
