Pilot Bay will remain closed this morning and possibly the rest of the week as work continues to fix damage to the road created by a ruptured water main on Monday night.
The section of The Mall between Princes Ave and Salisbury Wharf has been cordoned off while Tauranga City Council contractors work to repair a large hole in the road, created from the rupture. The hole is estimated to measure 6m by 4m and is about 2m deep.
Tauranga City Council communications adviser Marcel Currin said the water main had been repaired and there was now no disruption to water services.
The burst water main carved a large channel out of sand at Pilot Bay. Mr Currin said they were still working out the cause of the rupture.
