A person had to be cut from their car tonight after two cars collided on Maunganui Rd.

Emergency services were called to the crash shortly after 7.30pm and Mount Maunganui fire fighters used cutters and a spreader to get the trapped person from the car.

Fire communications shift manager Jarron Phillips said the crash happened just south of Spur Ave on Maunganui Rd.
