A person has been hit by a car in central Tauranga this afternoon.

A police media spokeswoman said police were called to the incident on 15th Ave near Devonport Rd about 3.30pm.

She said the pedestrian was in a moderate condition and was not seriously hurt.

"The driver was also still at the scene," she said.

Police were still at the scene.
