Pāpāmoa is one step closer to funding its new surf club building after a $25,000 donation from a neighbour.

The gift came from Pāpāmoa Beach Resort, a holiday park across the domain from the club.

In December last year, the official go-ahead was given for a new $4.5 million facility after the old clubhouse was deemed to be outdated.

The club has appealed for donations from businesses and individuals to help it reach its target.

Pāpāmoa Beach Resort owner Bruce Crosby said the donation was one of many the holiday park had given the club during its history, which spanned half a century.

"My wife and I have owned it for 33 years and my parents previously owned it for 20 years
... we've donated bits over the years."

He said the club had grown immensely during this time and had continued to provide "good Kiwi fun" to the public and visitors to the holiday park.

Papamoa Surf Life Saving Club building trust chairman Jim Pearson said the club was appreciative of the donation.

"At the end of the day, it will benefit the whole domain."

The club was hoping to complete the new building during winter as the current building would not make it through another season.

The club still had $600,000 to raise before construction of the new club could start.

Construction would not begin before all of the money was raised, Pearson said.

The club still had one major fundraiser to come - a charity auction for a GJ Gardner house built on a plot of land gifted by Terrace Views.
