Papamoa Plaza retailer stores have had a bumper trading month in January with most achieving double-digit growth figures.

That included Stirling Sports which opened in the plaza just over a year ago.

Franchisee Geoff Wyllie-Miln said year-on-year last month's turnover was up about 20 per cent.

"But since we have only been open just over a year, we started on a very low sales base. We're now where we should be, and that's great," he said.

Wyllie-Miln said some of the key factors to the success of the Stirling Sports franchise model was its multi-channelled approach which included its online store.

It meant lots of purchases were made by customers from outside the region, he said.

Wyllie-Miln said no store could just rely on customers walking through their front door and 10 per cent of his store's sales were to customers who bought online.

"We've built up a large, loyal customer base who shop here because we only sell top quality labelled products, and know their shopping experience is vitally important to us."
