A log that commonly washes up on Papamoa Beach and has earned the title of 'Papamoa Log', is up for sale on Trade Me this week - with the seller promising to donate all funds raised to feed struggling families.
"The famous Papamoa Log, which has its own hashtag #papamoalog, has become iconic on Papamoa Beach," the ad reads.
"Sometimes it disappears overnight or even for a few nights. Where it goes nobody knows, probably out to see the littlest blue penguin Pooper on Rabbit Island or to float over the Rena wreck, but then it's back, much to the delight of children and parents who come to take Ussies and Selfies.
"The Papamoa Log is also the best piece of public art that Papamoa has. Honed and polished by years of sun, sea and sand it represents the arrival of both Maori and European on boats from over the ocean. It reminds us of epic sea voyages that start with the felling of a tree."
The seller has promised to donate any money raised to Papamoa Link to get food parcels to struggling families.
