Both Uber representatives and Tauranga MP Simon Bridges have suggested Uber could help ease traffic congestion and parking issues in the city so fingers crossed it does alleviate any problems, even just slightly.
I'll definitely be using Uber, much like, I'd assume, many other Tauranga residents and visitors, especially during those busy weekends.
February also marked the beginning of Bike Month - a month-long campaign encouraging people to leave their vehicles behind and get riding, with a range of cycle activities on offer throughout the Bay of Plenty.
Sport Bay of Plenty, with the support of the council and other groups, has organised a full calendar of events throughout the region to introduce people to the joys of cycling, with Go By Bike Day on February 14, as well as activities, workshops and demonstrations.
Whether you want to join a group ride situation, learn to change a bike tyre or have a go at mountain biking or BMX there is something that will be of interest to everyone during Bike Month.
Not only does this encourage people to get out of their cars, it also encourages a more active lifestyle, fitness and socialising, which are all beneficial.
So, if you've been planning to leave your car at home, why not start this month and use an alternative means of transport and see how it works for you. You never know, you may become an avid cyclist.
