Freshly filled with gas, hubby was driving back home when it made a horrendous sound and died. It's now waiting at a mechanic for a new engine.
We packed up hubby's sporty Honda and drove to Gisborne. It apparently didn't like the weight of the camping gear in the boot, so that's now off the road awaiting repairs.
On to the fall-back plan - we pulled out my 1994 Toyota that hubby has been slowly doing up to give to a family member.
It died on the way to work, likely an electrical fault.
Three cars down, only days before we had to move house. What a nightmare.
We decided to buy a cheap wagon to tide us over while the other cars are being repaired and bought a trusty old Toyota.
It's served us well for the week we've had it - until Sunday morning, when I went to drop hubby to work and realised some scumbag had tried to steal it, damaging the door handle and ignition.
Of all the car troubles we've had, this stung the worst. It's probably going to be the easiest and cheapest repair job, but this happened on our property.
As anyone who's been burgled will know, it's a horrible feeling to know someone's been on your property with bad intentions.
Let's hope this is the end of the bad luck. Our battered savings can't take much more of this!
