One person has died in a house fire in Ruatahuna, a small town in Te Urewera National Park in the Bay of Plenty.
Fire and Emergency services were called to the blaze at a house on Mataatua Rd just after 2am this morning, a police spokesman said.
One other person from the house was taken to hospital in a moderate condition.
Police are working at the scene today along with Fire and Emergency New Zealand to determine the cause of the fire.
Police are unable to provide any information about the dead person until the formal identification process has been completed.
Fire and Emergency services had six fire trucks on the scene from stations including Murupara and Kawerau, along with a water tanker from Ngongotahā.
