A person has died in what is understood to be a serious incident involving a ride-on lawnmower in the Western Bay of Plenty.

Emergency services were called to a property in Ohauiti, south of Tauranga, shortly before 6.30pm yesterday after reports someone had been injured.

The Herald understands the victim was found seriously injured following an incident with a tractor.

A police spokesman confirmed this morning that officers were called to help fire crews at a property just after 6.30pm.

"Sadly, the person was located deceased at the scene."

There were no suspicious circumstances, police said, and the death is due to be referred to the Coroner.

Police have not yet revealed any other details about the victim - including their age or gender.
