New Zealand First leader Winston Peters yesterday criticised the "circus" the election campaign had become and slammed National's asset sales and foreign land sales policies.
Mr Peters made the comments in a speech at the Katikati War Memorial Hall attended by about 140 people from as far as Thames and Te Puke. NZ First was committed to stopping National's asset sales policy before everything was sold off, he said. "This may be New Zealand's last chance to get it right."
Even in the Bay of Plenty, logging was taking place in forests owned by overseas companies before being shipped overseas from the Port of Tauranga in its most unprocessed state taking work away from New Zealand sawmills, Mr Peters told the crowd.
"I don't blame anybody in those offshore centres. I blame those politicians."
Mr Peters said foreign land sales were just as much of an issue with the Overseas Investment Office approving on average one sale every three days for the past three years.
