Pāpāmoa could soon have a new flag pole flying the New Zealand flag to commemorate those who died while fighting for the country during the world wars.
Tauranga's Buddy Mikaere came up with the idea to erect a 12-metre tall flag pole next to the new $18,000 cenotaph at Pāpāmoa on Stella Place in time for Anzac Day on April 25.
"Raising and lowering the flag is all part of the memorial approach to Anzac ceremonies," he said.
"Flags are a central icon to Anzac Day in New Zealand."
Mikaere said Farmer Autovillage had helped fund the project which had been a collaboration between the local RSA and iwi Ngā Pōtiki, and a number of volunteers.
