3.37pm: Two boys who fell out of their kayaks and began to drift out to sea are now back on dry land after being rescued from Tauranga Harbour, much to the relief of their frightened nana.
The two brothers, aged 14 and 16, had been out in their kayaks about 3pm when they got into trouble near Kulim Park.
About 3.35pm they were plucked from sea by Tauranga Coastguard and a police response unit, and they were brought back to shore to be checked over.
One of the boys had a lifejacket and one did not, a reporter at the scene said.
A woman being hugged and showing visible relief said she was the boys' nana and had called police when she saw one of them fall in.
