A new $2 million home in Mount Maunganui has been crowned the Bay of Plenty and Central Plateau House of the Year.
The beachside mansion was built by Shaw Builders, which reaped seven awards including the regional Registered Master Builders Supreme Award for the 2015 House of the Year.

It is the fourth supreme award for the Tauranga team, which also now has more than 50 Gold Awards from the annual competitions.
Gudsell Designer Homes was awarded the Supreme Award for Bay of Plenty Central Plateau Registered Master Builders 2015 Renovation of the Year, plus a Gold Award and category win for the Mitre 10 Renovation Award $250,000 - $500,000.
Shaw Builders' director David Shaw, who has run the business for about 18 years with his wife, said winning the regional House of the Year was rewarding.
"I was stoked actually. So was Carolynne," Mr Shaw said.
"I didn't have a good feeling because the judges didn't come across like that. They are very hard to read ... but I suppose they don't want us to know that we've won."
Mr Shaw works full-time on the tools and said he believed his hands-on involvement gave his team an edge in the industry.
"I'm really involved and quite fussy. My guys know that they work with me and that's the [expectation]. I reckon it does help, and my guys are really good."
Mr Shaw said had not been the best at school so when he left and went straight into the building trade, he wanted to do all he could to do great work.
"That's my passion. I've got a passion for this trade and quality and there's no compromise in the quality really," he said.
And if customers were spending millions, there was even more pressure to do the job right.
"If they are spending that sort of money, they should get the best. And they do get the best."
The Mount Maunganui build was not without its challenges, Mr Shaw said.
Feature designs around spouting and negative spacing were probably the hardest parts of the project to perfect, he said.
If they are spending that sort of money, they should get the best. And they do get the best.
"When you win this you feel so much better. You know you've done the job right. These judges are pretty tough. Hopefully we'll do well in the nationals."
The judges called the Shaw Builders' project a beautifully built home with a faultlessly executed design.
"This is a substantial and sophisticated home that has been crafted with a lot of care and attention to detail. The design makes the most of the ocean views and the sun, seamlessly integrating outdoor living spaces while achieving privacy from adjacent properties."
Gudsell Designer Homes director Matt Gudsell said renovations could present their own challenges compared to new builds but "for us it was pretty close to perfection".
Mr Gudsell the Tauranga renovation took about seven months of re-cladding, fitting aluminium windows, lifting windows and refurbishing the home's interior.
"There wasn't a lot of changes architecturally. Just little things that brought the house back to life again."
There were 14 Gold Award winners from the Bay of Plenty Central Plateau region which will now be eligible, alongside Gold Award winners from up and down the country, to become National Gold Reserve finalists, which will be announced in September.
National category winners and the Registered Master Builders Supreme Awards for Renovation of the Year and House of the Year will be announced at a gala dinner in Auckland in November.
