The motorcyclist at the centre of a crash which brought Tauranga city to a standstill this week has been charged.
Traffic was ground to a stop on Hewletts Rd, State Highway 2, near Tauranga Harbour Bridge on Wednesday after a motorcyclist crashed while fleeing police.
The man was taken to Tauranga Hospital with suspected serious leg injuries but was later discharged with minor injuries.
The highway was shut down for two hours as police examined and cleaned up the scene. The man had been involved in a police pursuit.
Police said today a 30-year-old man has been charged with supplying false details, failing to stop, dangerous driving, and driving was disqualified.
