Seven hundred trout were released into Lake McLaren last night.
Fish & Game released the fish at the Ruahihi Canal about 6pm as part of an annual release.
Lake McLaren is in McLaren Falls Park in the lower Kaimai ranges and offers year round fishing with a bag limit of two trout and no size restriction. The lake and canal are stocked with rainbow and brown trout but also have some wild fish.
Fish & Game officer Mark Sherburn said 500 rainbow and another 200 browns will be released into the lake at various locations around Cherry Bay, and in the canal near the entrance to the park.
Mr Sherburn said the club recently took its turn to host a successful kid's fish day out at the hatchery, doing their bit to introduce even more youngsters to the sport - over and above their own family members and relations.
