More than 30 road works sites will be in operation this month in the Western Bay.

There will be 28 active sites on State Highway 2 between Tauranga and Waihi, and about three active sites on State Highway 29 between Tauriko and the Kaimai Summit this month while a major safety improvement programme is underway.

A delay of 10 minutes is expected driving on State Highway 2 while these works are in place, and minor delays should be expected driving to the Kaimai Summit.

Contractors are widening shoulders, installing guard rails, removing trees and other hazards and installing rumble strips on centreline and edgeline road markings to improve safety for motorists.

Other Bay road works include:

* Contractors are repairing a major under slip on Omanawa Rd 2.8km from the Omanawa Rd/SH29 intersection and delays of up to five minutes are expected.

* Motorists travelling between Katikati and Waihi are advised to expect minor delays as work continues to repair an under slip near Bridgman Lane on SH2.

* New pedestrian islands and guard railing are being installed on SH33 near Paengaroa this month. The work started on June 10 and is expected to continue until July 1.
