More lifesaving gear for Tauranga volunteer fire brigade

Tauranga volunteer fire brigade has been given funding to help save more lives.

Tauranga volunteer fire brigade has been given funding for additional rescue and cutting equipment to help save lives.

The funding support from Grassroots Trust will help the brigade expand their rescue capability within the local and extended community.

The volunteer firefighters provide emergency, educational and fire safety community services to the wider Tauranga area, including highways 2, 2A, 29, 29A and 36.

Tauranga station officer Bruce Nilson said "The brigade is grateful for the additional capability this new equipment provides for emergency responders in Tauranga and surrounding district".

The additional hydraulic rescue equipment provides the voluntary service with the ability to extricate trapped people from vehicles efficiently.

Grassroots Trust chairman Martin Bradley said it aimed to provide grants to communities where the funds were generated.

"We're very proud to be able to support the Tauranga Volunteer Fire Brigade in the crucial role they play within the community."

Grassroots Trust currently operates two venues in the Tauranga community, The Flying Mullet Ale House and The Gee C which generate funding to support the local community.

Sport, education and community groups within the Tauranga region are encouraged to submit an application to Grassroots Trust for funding and can seek further information and apply online at www.grassrootstrust.co.nz.
