More details of fatal Whakatāne house fire revealed

Inquiries are continuing after a fatal house fire in Whakatāne.

Emergency services were called to the property on Tuhoe Ave about 5.30am yesterday.

Police said in a statement this morning, while formal identification was yet to take place, they believed the deceased was a 47-year-old man who lived at the
property.

A post mortem would be carried out today.

Initial indications were the fire was not suspicious however a scene guard remained in place at the property until a scene examination was complete.
