Twelve new car parks will be added to Mount Maunganui.
The parks will be located in the May St car park and part of Shadelands Lane.
Work begins on Monday and is expected to take about two weeks. The May St entrance to Shadelands Lane will be closed off during the work. Access to the May St car park will be maintained from Pacific Ave, Banks Ave and through the former Phoenix Car Park area. The car park itself will remain open.
There will be partial closures for road marking, footpath laying and other work related to the upgrade. The May St upgrade will be completed before the remaining part of Phoenix area is closed for the next stage of the new urban space development.
Following the upgrade, the May St entrance to Shadelands Lane will be permanently one-way.
May St car park will become a P180 zone in June. This will increase the turnover of cars with more car parks available for people visiting Mount Mainstreet to shop and dine.
