Heather Jackson Job Title: Senior Veterinarian
Company: Tauranga Veterinary Services
What does your job involve?
I work with pet owners and their companion animals _ cats, dogs and other small animals. When clients come in for a consultation the animal is examined and sometimes the consultation process involves taking blood and examining the results. I'll assess their health needs and discuss options for treatment with the owner. I'm fortunate to work in a well-equipped companion animal hospital. Pets can be in and out in a day or stay for a while, depending on the complexity of the case. X-rays, ultrasound and microscopy are diagnostic options. I also perform routine to moderately complex surgery.
What's your role's most challenging aspect?
The pressure comes on when I need to juggle several complex or difficult cases all at once. Every case is different as they all come with their own unique and very special pet/owner relationship. Every client's circumstances are different, too. What may be an affordable treatment option for one pet owner may not be for someone else and we always respect that. What's your proudest work moment?
