Max Mason steps down from Chamber

Tauranga Chamber of Commerce's Max Mason is stepping down from his role as chief executive to look after one of the region's largest retirement villages.
Mr Mason is moving on after five and a half years in the role. He will take up his new position as village manager of the Ryman Healthcare Bob Owens Retirement Village in mid-January.
Mr Mason has been employed by the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce for seven years, and as chief executive office (CEO) for five and a half, and said, "the CEO of the Chamber is one of the most fulfilling jobs in Tauranga and it has been a real privilege to have been in the role".
"To have participated in the growth and development of this beautiful, vibrant and go-ahead city was a real honour," Mr Mason said.
"One of the great pleasures of the role was working with so many fine people who contribute a great deal to the wider business community for little reward. Our members, sponsors, mentors, Westpac Business Award judges, board members, Young Enterprise Scheme supporters, Rocket and Business Women's Network committee members, Maori Business Network, and many others give time, money or expertise in pursuit of the greater good. They believe a vibrant business community is vital to the quality of life of the whole population, and it has been a pleasure working with them."
Mr Mason also paid tribute to all the government, business and other agencies he had interacted with, and said, "In terms of collaboration and innovation, Tauranga and the Western Bay has something special. I have heard many, many people from other regions say how productive it must be to work harmoniously in such an environment.
"Thank you to Chairman Paul Bowker and the very supportive board. Huge thanks to the Chamber team who constantly go above and beyond. When you enjoy the company of your colleagues and there is a great team spirit, it's a pleasure coming to work.
"Lastly thanks to my wife Helen and son Mungo who understood the need to spend so much time at after hours events and other activities."
