Wharf access to Matakana Island is expected to close for brief periods during the next three weeks.
The closures are for safety reasons as the Western Bay of Plenty District Council carries out wharf repairs at Panepane Wharf. The works are expected to take up to three weeks to complete.
The repairs are being done by HEB Construction and include replacing some timber piles and the access stairway. The work is necessary for the structural integrity and safety of the wharf.
Western Bay of Plenty District Council said in a statement that during the maintenance work, access to the wharf will only be available via the stairs on the eastern side of the wharf.
Access to the wharf for boat passengers, including school pupils will be possible most of the time during construction.
