Massive marlin caught at weekend

Marlin were late arriving in local waters this year but over the Beach Hop weekend, eight were weighed in by members of the Whangamata Ocean Sports Club — and all were striped marlin. Club manager Phil Keogh said in the eight days from Saturday March 18 to Sunday March 26, 14 were weighed in. Pictured are anglers and their teams, Louise Breen with his 127kg marlin, Aaron Levien (127.8kg), Paul Oldham (141.7kg), Darren Orchard (150.8kg) and Steve Porter whose 173.8kg marlin is the largest of the year so far.
