A Te Puke man who violently assaulted a police detective - who suffered a cut to his cheek, a black eye and three damaged teeth - has been jailed for 13 months.
Leon Ratahi, 20, was sentenced in Tauranga District Court today after he earlier pleaded guilty to one charge each of disorderly behaviour likely to cause violence to occur, threatening to kill, assaults police.
He also admitted three charges each of resisting police and wilful damage.
Ratahi assaulted Detective Mark Farrell while the officer was attending a domestic related incident between Ratahi and his pregnant partner at their home on April 30 this year.
The threatening to kill charge and wilful damage charges relate to Ratahi's pregnant partner, who called police after Ratahi also broke a window and threw around tables and chairs.
