A man had to be airlifted to hospital yesterday after being attacked by a cow.
The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Paengaroa at 8pm after a cow attacked a 52-year-old man.
The man was helping out a calf when the calf's mother attacked, ramming him against a tree several times.
The area on the farm was very steep and covered in small pine trees which made it very challenging for the fire service to carry the injured man to the helicopter.
He received serious internal injuries, was treated at the scene by St John paramedics before being flown to Tauranga hospital for further treatment.
