A Tauranga man is on trial accused of drug dealing after police allege they found two socks on his property containing up to $5000 worth of P, 84g of cannabis, digital scales and $7000 in cash.
The accused, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, denied one count each of possession of cannabis for supply and possession of methamphetamine for supply, when his trial began in Tauranga District Court yesterday.
Crown prosecutor Hayley Sheridan told the jury that the prosecution case stemmed from a police search of the man's property last year, and the efforts of an "eagle-eyed detective" who found two black socks - one on top of a fence bordering the property, and another close by along the same fence line hidden underneath some yucca plants.
Mrs Sheridan said that when detectives searched the man's house they found five cannabis tinnies weighing 5.8g, two P-pipes, including one hidden in the lining of a curtain, $110 cash, and a radio scanner able to monitor police frequencies.
Inside the master bedroom was also a CCTV system which was running and enabled the defendant to monitor the comings and goings to and from his property, she said.
