Mr Clifford said police would also like to speak to the female driver of a silver car that drove past shortly after the crash before emergency services arrived.
The road has now been re-opened.
9:06am: A man who was run over in a driveway in Pukehina has died.
Fire Service Northern Communications manager Scott Osmond confirmed the man was deceased.
He was unable to give more details of the crash as police were investigating.
Police said Old Coach Road was closed between Macdougall Quarry Rd and Ohinepanea Rd and would be for sometime. Serious crash investigators are making their way to the scene.
8.22am: A person has been struck by a car in a driveway in Pukehina this morning, police Inspector Kerry Watson says.
Police, fire fighters and ambulances are at the scene and a helicopter has been called for the patient, he said.
