A man accused of the manslaughter-killing of 17-year-old Halayna Wagstaff in Te Puke made a brief appearance in a Tauranga court this afternoon.
Jason Whero Anaru-Emery, 18, from Maketu, faced charges of manslaughter, kidnapping and seven other various assault charges when he appeared in the Tauranga District Court.
Court documents revealed police have alleged the kidnapping and manslaughter-killing of Wagstaff took place in Te Puke on July 21 this year.
Anaru-Emery has also been charged with three counts of assault with intent to injure and four charges of male assaults female between February 1 and July 21 this year.
Judge Christopher Harding remanded Anaru-Emery in custody to next appear in the Tauranga High Court on February 5 for a possible bail hearing.
