A man allegedly rammed a police car and attempted to run down a police officer in a stolen car.
He sparked a police chase and a large manhunt after allegedly fleeing from police about 4.30pm today.
Northern Communications Centre shift commander Inspector Kerry Watson said the public could resume normal movements and be reassured that they were safe.
"We would like to thank the Tauranga community for their cooperation," he said.
A 28-year-old Tauranga man will appear in Tauranga District Court tomorrow charged with disqualified driving, possession of offensive weapon, aggravated assault on police, reckless driving, failing to stop for police, two counts of assault with a weapon, burglary and unlawfully taking a motorvehicle.
