A man has been arrested after a car crashed into a bus shelter in central Tauranga yesterday.

A police media spokeswoman said police were following positive lines of enquiry regarding the driver of a car that crashed into a bus shelter on Cameron Rd about 6.40pm on Thursday.

A man who worked near the area was turning into Cameron Rd from 16th Ave when he saw the crash and two men jump out of the car and run from the scene.

A police spokeswoman said officers had arrested a man and were continuing to investigate.
