A lunch break turned into a lucky break, with a Lotto ticket purchased at lunchtime bagging a Tauranga syndicate a $333,333 share of Lotto First Division.
The work syndicate of 12 bought Lotto and Big Wednesday tickets together each week but hadn't had much luck with this year until now.
"We buy tickets every week, but were still waiting for our numbers to come up we'd won a total of $86 over the entire year!" a representative said.
"We'd just decided to invest it all in Triple Dip tickets for next weekend's Christmas draw in the hope we might strike it lucky next thing we knew we hit the jackpot!"
It took a fair bit of convincing before the team could believe their $2 contribution had turned into a Christmas bonus of $27,777 each.
"We checked the numbers over and over again but it wasn't until we heard that Greerton Lotto had sold a winner that we really began to believe it.
"The timing couldn't be better it's a great Christmas present for a really deserving team."
But winning big isn't going to stop the syndicate from trying their luck with Lotto.
"We're still going to buy $86 worth of Triple Dips this weekend there's no harm in giving it a go. Who knows, we might see our numbers come up again."
The winning ticket was sold at Greerton Lotto in Tauranga.
