Christmas has come early for Lien Talma Stheeman.
The Te Puke woman thought it was a joke when she received a phone call saying she had won an LCD television.
But it was no prank. Mrs Talma Stheeman had won top prize in the Bay of Plenty Times Top Café Club 2009 competition.
More than 1700 readers clipped a coupon for a free cafe muffin with every coffee bought during the month-long competition.
All entries went into the draw to win a 47cm Sharp Aquos widescreen LCD TV, valued at $999.
Mrs Talma Stheeman, who redeemed her free muffin at Gana Cafe in Papamoa, was "thrilled" once she realised the phone call was no joke: "I never win anything. It certainly is a great Christmas present."
The Dutch immigrant has subscribed to the Bay of Plenty Times since arriving in Te Puke 17 years ago.
She said she looked forward to watching her favourite shows - Coronation Street and Grand Designs - on the new television.
Michael and Nikki McLennan, from Gana Cafe, have also had an early Christmas present, winning two Sekat kayaks, worth $500 each, for being the lucky cafe.
Both prizes were supplied by Bay Lifestyles and Heating.
