Lucky escape from caravan crash

A person has had a lucky escape after their ute towing a caravan rolled into a ditch and hit a power pole tonight.

Police northern communications shift manager Tony Wakelin said police and fire fighters were called to the crash on SH2 in Whakamarama about 5.20pm.

The power lines were down and the crash had sparked a small fire, he said.

Omokoroa fire fighters attended to the crash for close to two hours.

One person escaped without serious injuries and did not need ambulance assistance.
