Online spending is up in the Bay of Plenty - and local sites are taking a larger slice of the action.
Spending through websites in the Bay of Plenty was up 18.6 per cent in October compared to the same time last year, according to BNZ and Marketview figures. Spending on domestic sites led the charge, increasing by 19.4 per cent while international spending was up 17.8 per cent.
Books a Plenty co-owner Warren Basket said the Tauranga-based online store was doing well. The vast majority of sales were instore but some people preferred to buy online.
"We're obviously mainly a bricks and mortar store but we do have an online presence," he said.
Most online custom was university students buying text books, particularly students studying Bay of Plenty courses by distance.
