The Labour-Green bloc has picked up two extra seats and National has lost two in the final election result, making it a more even contest for coalition negotiations with New Zealand First than before.
National has lost two seats, dropping from 58 on election night to 56.
Labour has gained one seat, taking its total to 46 compared with 45 on election night, two weeks ago.Today is the day the result of the 2017 General Election will finally be confirmed.
Two weeks after the September 23 election, the result will be confirmed at 2pm; after the counting of almost 390,000 additional special votes.
On election night, National won 58 seats, Labour 45, New Zealand First 9, the Green Party 7 and one seat was won by ACT.
Traditionally, the special vote count has favoured Labour and the Greens under MMP.
The official election confirmation comes just two days after NZ First leader Winston Peters started talks with both National and Labour about potential coalition government deals.
Peters has indicated he is confident he can conclude negotiations with his favoured party by Thursday.
For National to have held its 58 seats there was very little room for it to slip in the specials compared to its election-night result of 46 per cent.
