The generosity of Tauranga residents and service groups continues to astound Tauranga Community Foodbank staff as the 2014 Bay of Plenty Times Christmas Appeal draws to an end.
The Residents for Havenbrook Village in Pyes Pa collected items for the foodbank at their Christmas dinner as they have done for the last three years.
Village manager Bev Fulton said residents decided to donate "because we can".
"A little bit goes a long way. If everybody gives a little bit it comes to a big lot. Everybody can give one or two things," she said. She was supportive of the foodbank and the way they ran the service as she had heard of many people who have had to go to the charity for help later giving back to it. "It just makes people feel useful, not just takers."
The Mount Maunganui and District Lioness Club also donated 20 Christmas cakes and more than $100 worth of other food and toiletries. Member Colleen Bennett said the club's 20 members made a donation every Christmas.
