For three years, I used a mobility scooter on the cycle lanes wherever possible all over Tauranga without any incident with police or traffic.
A month or two ago I was informed (not by police) not to go on the footpath owing to age, etc.
I say it is far more dangerous crossing side streets (without lights) than it is on a cycle lane where one follows the lights.
For instance, riding on the footpath and travelling from McLean St near the courthouse to the hospital, on the left there were six occasions where cars turned to the left off Cameron Rd and drove in front of me as I started to cross the roads without lights.
One doesn't get any palpitations when one is on the cycle lane nor big bumps.
