Tauranga City Council will look at setting up a plan to deal with legal high traders during today's City Vision Committee meeting.
Bay of Plenty District Health Board's youth, alcohol and other drugs (CAMHS) spokesman David Gilmour has speaking rights at today's meeting which starts at 1pm.
Mr Gilmour will lay out the effects of smoking legal highs on the community and urge TCC to join the Western Bay of Plenty District Council in creating a Pyschoactive Substances Policy which will make its harder to sell legal highs in the city.
Council staff are recommending elected members hold off making a decision until September 2014 when discussions to allow for New Zealand wide regulations to kick in.
Elected members will also consider developing a public art policy and reviewing several other policies including Gambling Venues Policy, Mobile Shops Policy and Freedom Camping by-law.
