The Imperial Trading LTD Otumoetai Eels premiers have booked themselves a top two seeding for the play-offs with a grinding 18-8 win over Hukanui at Mitchell Park.
The Eels outlasted the visitors in a match played in atrocious conditions, retaining their composure and discipline to underline their credentials as potentialchampionship contenders.
Eels fullback Ainsley Skudder was the only player to dot down in a low-scoring first half, before comeback kid Ryan Gordon got on the end of a Josh Weedon cross kick to score in the corner.
A pair of Hukanui tries from powerful centre Jordan Tai-Rakena ensured a tight finish, but Eels hooker Mikaere October went over near the posts just before fulltime to put the result beyond doubt.
In other matches, Ngaruawahia won a tough encounter over Turangawaewae 24-10, United defaulted to top-of-the-table Taniwharau and Hamilton City Tigers had the bye.
