A broken down vehicle is blocking the road on one of Tauranga's busiest intersections.

A police media spokeswoman said a vehicle was blocking one lane at State Highway 2 and SH29A, at Te Maunga, about 7am.

"The vehicle has broken down and has its hazard lights on," the spokeswoman said.

Motorists were advised of possible delays and to take care when approaching the area.
