Seconds after 12-year-old performer Lotima Nicholas - better known as General Fiyah - stepped into the sunlight a swarm of kids were hanging off the ropes behind him, cheering.
Never mind that singer Stan Walker was sitting just a few metres away, social media star William Waiirua was in view and Fiyah's fellow headliner Ria Hall had just left the stage.
The pint-sized Auckland performer was who they came to see at the second annual Arataki Day Out yesterday.
Hundreds of families descended on Arataki Park for the free event, which included live music, sausage sizzles and bouncy castles.
Papamoa mum Louise Broederlow, who was there with Sarhn Broederlow and their three daughters, said it was awesome everything was free - "you don't get that very often".
