The driver of a school bus that caught fire while travelling across Tauranga Harbour Bridge said she "just wanted to get my darlings off the bus".
The vehicle was taking students to Mount Maunganui when smoke started billowing from the back.
The driver, Jenny Tong, said she heard the kids
yelling, looked behind her and saw smoke coming from the rear of the bus.
The fire is believed to have started in the engine compartment at the rear of the bus. Photo/Andrew WarnerShe quickly pulled off to the shoulder, opened the doors and got the children off quickly.
