A 23-year-old man is in a serious condition in Waikato Hospital this morning after he was attacked while sitting in his black Subaru car last night.
The man was parked on the roadside in Clive Rd about midnight when he was approached by a female and two unknown males, andwas punched a number of times in the face.
He was then truck with an iron bar, which lodged into the side of the victim's head and later removed by medical staff at Tauranga Hospital.
The victim was airlifted to Waikato Hospital, where he is in a serious but stable condition.
The offender responsible for this assault is described as: Male, olive complexion, slim build, early 20's with short black spiky hair. He was wearing a dark green coloured 'T' shirt.
Police want to hear from anyone who was in/around Clive Rd, Katikati about midnight and might have seen this incident, or anyone who knows the identity of the person responsible for this assault.
