A 71-year-old Tauranga man was airlifted out of the Kaimai Ranges tonight after slipping while climbing a bank, suffering injuries to his shoulder.
The Tauranga based Trustpower TECT rescue helicopter was called out to the injured tramper near Sentinal rock.
Helicopter pilot Liam Brettkelly said the tramper had slipped and fallen while climbing a rugged bank in a steep valley, injuring his shoulder as a result.
The man was with a tramping group and one of the members walked out of the bush to raise the alarm.
The injured man was winched out using the Port of Tauranga rescue winch and flown to Tauranga hospital for treatment.
