Infant dies suddenly in Whakatāne

An infant died unexpectedly in Whakatāne today.

Police have confirmed the sudden death of an infant in Whakatāne was reported at 11am today.

A police media spokeswoman said it was currently being treated as unexplained.

A post mortem will be carried out in the coming days.

A St John spokeswoman said she was not aware of a callout, after checking the service's logs.
