Kiwifruit Vine Health chief executive Barry O'Neil said the fact the insects were getting into the country was a worry as an outbreak would have a major impact on the industry.
Mr O'Neil said the timing of the find was good for kiwifruit as it was still more than a month away from the start of the harvesting season.
