Help us name our baby. That's the call to Bay of Plenty Times readers today from Bay couple Stacey Roddick and Kane McMahon, who after more than a week have been unable to name their baby boy.
Finding a name to suit the newest addition to their family has consumed their every waking thought - from making a cup of tea to hanging out the washing.
It's been eight days and counting.
But still "Baby" Roddick-McMahon's parents are stumped - and now they want suggestions.
"Nothing fits," Miss Roddick said. "He was going to be Laurence but after seeing him he doesn't look like a Laurence."
Their baby's generous head of hair has also prompted them to reassess their little boy's name. "So if anyone's got any suggestions ... " she said.
"He doesn't look like anyone. Have you seen his hair? My other two were bald compared with him. It's his hair that puts everything off," she laughed.
Miss Roddick has grown accustomed to her newborn's hair and was planning to buy a silk pillow so it doesn't fall out.
"He needs a little short name because he's so little. It's hard naming kids."
Their baby's proposed middle names were also up for debate. "We've kind of got something - but it's not guaranteed," she stressed. "Hamioia [Samuel] Matene [Martin]. My dad loves the name Hamioia and Matene is my grandfather's name," Miss Roddick, 21, said.
Baby Roddick-McMahon - they've settled on that as a surname - is Miss Roddick's third child and her second with partner, 19-year-old Mr McMahon. They have a daughter Sharleah, 18 months, and Miss Roddick has another son Jayden, 4.
"Jayden wants to call him [the baby] Gary after the snail on SpongeBob SquarePants," she said. That has been politely declined.
Sharleah has taken to calling her new brother "Bubba".
Miss Roddick said Jayden's name was picked as soon as she found she was pregnant. Sharleah had her name within a week - a combination of names the couple liked, Shar and Leah.
There had been no shortage of suggestions for their son but "none that we really like".
"Someone suggested Daniel, as in Daniel Carter," she said smiling.
She was happy to hear names put forward by the public.
Baby Roddick-McMahon was born at Tauranga Hospital last Tuesday, weighing 3150g (6lb 15oz).
She said her newest child was a "really quiet and content" baby and was being doted on by his dad.
New Zealand's Department of Internal Affairs suggests babies be named and registered within two months of birth.
Legally parents have two years to name a child; however, it is rare for parents to wait that long.
