The launch of Lewis Road Creamery Vanilla Milk shows Heilala is heading in an exciting direction as the firm teams with like-minded brands.

The launch of Lewis Road Creamery Vanilla Milk shows Heilala is heading in an exciting direction as the firm teams with like-minded brands.

Bay of Plenty-based Heilala Vanilla has scored a "game-changing" marketing coup by securing a co-branding agreement with leading milk company Lewis Road Creamery, says chief executive Jennifer Boggiss.

This week Lewis Road followed up on the success of its chocolate milk with the launch of two new flavours, Fresh Vanilla Milk and Fresh Coffee Milk, a collaboration with roasting company Coffee Supreme.

Ms Boggiss said the new vanilla flavour had been in the pipeline for some months.

"We've got our logo on the front of the bottle, we were involved in the taste tests and we're really happy with the product," she said.

The deal would be significant in terms of volumes, she said, noting that Lewis Road Creamery was selling approximately 45,000 units a week of its chocolate milk.

"Even if it's half or a third as successful as chocolate, it's still a game-changer for our business."

The coup follows Heilala Vanilla's success in May this year, when its vanilla was included in one of Whittaker's new Artisan Collection range of chocolates.

Ms Boggiss said the Heilala Vanilla branding on the Lewis Road Creamery bottles was more prominent than with Whittaker's chocolate, and the volumes were potentially much greater.

The launch of the Lewis Road Creamery Vanilla Milk showed the Heilala brand was continuing to head in a new and exciting direction as the company teamed up with like-minded brands, she said.

"These collaborations further reinforce our commitment to produce a world class vanilla product to be used in other quality food products. It's all about NZ companies working together to build great products. It's great to be collaborating with a really innovative company."

The Vanilla Milk is produced by infusing Heilala Vanilla's Pure Vanilla Extract, Lewis Road Creamery's permeate-free Premium Whole Milk and natural cane sugar through a gentle warming process.

"Both Coffee Supreme and Heilala Vanilla represent the very finest within their respective categories and share our vision of delivering world-class products to their customers," said Lewis Road Creamery founder Peter Cullinane.

The new flavours come nearly one year after the brand hit the market with its chocolate milk, made with Whittaker's chocolate. Since then the company has been working to increase its production capacity and extend its flavoured milk line-up in response to consumer demand.

In the South Island, the launch of the new coffee and vanilla milks comes at the same time as the launch of chocolate milk, previously only available in the north.

The recommended prices for the flavoured milks are $6.49 for 750ml and $3.69 for 300ml.
